Do I have any boss babes reading this? Well, if you don't have a budget set in place, I may need to ask you to put your hand down. I mean, really, how are you winning in your finances without clear direction and a revised plan of action to meet goals in your life?
Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Janee Culpepper and I am a financial coach with "Financial Healing For Women", where we focused on helping women just like you live abundantly. I've been getting a lot of calls and messages from many of you asking for help with your budget. Here are some essential budgeting tips for you to start bossing up your life and stop living in cycles! Because the truth is, it doesn't matter whether you're living paycheck-to-paycheck, robbing Peter to pay Paul, doing well financially, or living your best wealthy life. Wealthy people know that having a budget in place is the centerpiece of creating behaviors that lead to building wealth. Budgeting is not the end all be all, but it is a start! Everyone needs a budget!
What is a budget?
Well, first let me share with you what it isn't. It is not a control method. It doesn't control your life or keep you held in bondage, but it is a system that is set in place to help you become a better steward of what God has given you. You are not entirely in control over your money, God is, but it is your responsibility to take care of it. A budget is simply a tool that helps you keep track of your finances. It's a plan of action!
Each time you get paid, you need to have a plan of action. Because the reality is if you're not planning, you're losing. If you're not planning, you‘re already mishandling your money, you already purchased food, used the overdraft, used the credit card, and prevented your chances of moving forward in future goals like; taking that trip, saving for your kids football league, saving for that home etc. So a budget is a plan of action that separates, your income from your expenses and tells it the appropriate places to go.
Why do you need a budget?
Simple! You need a budget because you have goals to accomplish! A trip you want to take. A parent you want to be able to take care of one day if something goes wrong. A wedding to plan. Piece of mind you want to achieve. Regardless if you have verbalized it or not, you have a goal. That's why you need a budget.
How do I create a budget?
There are a few ways you can create a budget. Before I started budgeting through an Excel file, I would write everything down on paper the old school way; paper and pen! I haven't found an application yet to help me create a budget exactly how I want it! Writing expenses down will create healthy and repetitive behaviors that will help you to better determine where it should go. The good thing is that it isn't permanent. If you mess up, start over!
The more advanced way to create a budget is through a regular Excel file. I create and expense sheet for each month, copy and paste that Excel sheet and move it over to the next tab for the next month. I would recommend you to use plain ole‘ paper and pen or utilize an Excel sheet. Until next time!
